Mejegan, a menopause coach, outdoors in a green hijab

Mejegan · ISSA Certified Nutritionist, Personal Trainer & Menopause Specialist

You are not imagining it. And you are not stuck with it.

Perimenopause and menopause coaching for Muslim women 40+. Built around the food already on your table, training you can do modestly at home, and a faith that was never meant to be the last thing you get to.

Sound familiar

Your labs came back normal. You did not.

Estrogen in perimenopause isn't low, it's erratic, and a single blood draw only catches one moment of the swing. There's no standard test that diagnoses this. Normal labs and real symptoms live in the same body all the time.

You are not lazy and you have not let yourself go. Your body changed the rules and nobody handed you the new ones.

The framework

The Sakinah Method

Four pillars, and five stages to move through them. I give the whole thing away, in every post and every workshop, because you should be able to repeat it to your sister without me in the room.

01

Fuel

Your protein number, worked out for your body, hit with rice, roti, dal and biryani still on the table. We change the proportions, not the culture. Nothing gets cut in week one.

02

Strength

Resistance training for a 40+ body. Home or gym, modest, and scalable all the way down to a chair and no weights. The marker is your waist, not the scale.

03

Rest

Progesterone drops first and it is the hormone that holds sleep together. That is the 3am wake-up. Caffeine cut-off, daylight before 9am, and what to do when you're lying there at 3.

04

Sakinah

Your body is an amanah, a trust. Salah as the anchor of the day rather than something squeezed around it. This is not the spiritual part added at the end. It is the part that makes the other three stick.

How you move through the four pillars

StopReflectRealignRenewSustain

Stop what is creating pressure without progress. Reflect on your meals, movement, sleep and stress. Realign with one practical change. Renew your strength and energy. Sustain it through family life, travel and Ramadan.

The Menopause Plate

One page. Your protein target by body weight, and 6 plates built from chicken curry, dal and roti, biryani, shakshuka, a four-minute breakfast bowl, and grilled meat with hummus. Every one of them food you already cook.

So many of the women I talk to have never been given a protein number at all. That isn't a discipline problem. Nobody ever gave us the number.

Mejegan

I'm 49 and in menopause. I'm a mom of 4, and an ISSA certified nutritionist, personal trainer and menopause specialist.

Perimenopause hit me at 44 and I had no idea what was happening. The weight would not move no matter what had worked in my 30s. My face was puffy, my joints hurt, I was awake in the middle of the night, and I started choosing black clothes and blazers so I could hide my stomach at parties.

My daughter left for college that same year, so I was grieving that while trying to work out what my own body was doing.

I already held two certifications and it still took me 3 to 4 years, because I was piecing it together alone. Every plan I found was written for a woman shopping at an American supermarket, with nothing to say about Ramadan, or biryani, or training modestly at home. So I built a different one.

Then I started talking to other Muslim women and found the same thing everywhere. Nobody had told us. In our families this life stage is barely spoken about at all, and strength training for a woman our age is treated as something other people do.

That is why this exists.
